From his note:

Project timing poses risk to 2017 ests and could further impair 8Point3′s value, 2018′s book of business seems unlikely to support 3x earnings growth, and valuation on a normalized earnings trajectory does not appear compelling following the stock’s recent strong run.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch Right Now: Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (VGK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Todd Shriber, ETF Professor]

Still, there are instances of limited appetite for diversified Europe ETFs, particularly those with significant U.K. exposure. The Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (NYSE: VGK) hasn't added (or lost) any capital since June 20. That ETF devotes 31.4 percent of its weight to U.K. stocks.

  • [By Todd Shriber, ETF Professor]

Here is a dichotomy. Global small-caps are performing admirably. The WisdomTree Europe SmallCap Dividend Fund (NYSE: DFE) is an example of a Europe ETF that is defying some unfavorable trends. DFE is down 3.5 percent year-to-date. That sounds bad, but it is far better than what investors have been treated to with diversified, large-cap Europe ETFs. The Vanguard Europe ETF (NYSE: VGK) and the iShares Europe ETF (NYSE: IEV) are down an average of 5.3 percent this year.

  • [By Tom Aspray, Senior Editor, MoneyShow.com]

The US stock market is still leading with the Spyder Trust (SPY) up 18.6%, while the European markets (VGK) are now up close to 10% for the year, as they have gotten a nice boost in the past three weeks.

Perhaps the largest ETF dedicated to tracking French stocks should be getting more attention. In a year in which ETFs tracking the PIIGS economies are struggling, EWQ has been solid. The France ETF's 2.7 percent year-to-date gain is slightly ahead of the comparable Germany ETF and more than twice as good as the Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (NYSE: VGK).

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch Right Now: Randgold Resources Limited(GOLD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

Gold mining stocks were also lower, with Randgold Resources (GOLD) falling around 1.5% and Fresnillo Plc (FNLPF) slipping 0.85%. Randgold’s 10.66% advance over the past three months, however, has nearly doubled that of spot gold prices while Fresnillo’s 15.82% rise is nearly three times higher than the bullion’s gain over the same period.

Thus we are still extremely cautious in gold as we are a bit worried about next week’s job report being positive and knocking gold down, but we maintain our core positions in gold. But we aren’t looking to re-establish any of our sold gold and silver positions just yet until we see more of a pullback in the metals or a bad jobs report and thus we think investors should hold off or lighten up on gold positions in the ETF’s and miners such as the SPDR Gold Trust ETF (NYSEARCA:GLD), ETFS Physical Swiss Gold Trust ETF (NYSEARCA:SGOL), iShares Silver Trust (NYSEARCA:SLV), and miners such as Randgold (GOLD) and Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX).

Still, some stocks managed to buck the negative sentiment on Tuesday, and Sears Holdings (NASDAQ:SHLD), Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) and Coeur Mining (NYSE:CDE) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Given revised commodity deck forecasts (particularly for Steel and Gold) and improved Balance Sheet health (Steels, Precious and Industrials Metals) we are upgrading our ratings on several stocks in our coverage. We generally favor companies that have already initiated specific self-help, have low-cost assets and are less exposed to China supply and demand dynamics. In Steels, we have increased our rating from Hold to Buy on Nucor (NUE) and from Sell to Hold on US Steel. We have also upgraded Kinross Gold (KGC) to a Hold on valuation…On higher-than-peer valuations, we reiterate Sell-rated Coeur Mining (CDE), Franco-Nevada (FNV), Goldcorp (GG), Teck Resources (TCK) and highly leveraged AK Steel given preference to issue further equity if possible.

Deutsche Bank’s Jorge Beristain and Chris Terry released their earnings preview for the gold miners–including Barrick Gold (ABX), Goldcorp (GG), Franco-Nevada (FNV), and Coeur Mining (CDE)–and conclude that only one gold miner deserves a Buy rating: Newmont Mining (NEM). They explain why:

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch Right Now: Lam Research Corporation(LRCX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.MONEYSHOW.COM]

Lam Research (LRCX) has consistently outgrown the overall semiconductor-equipment market due to its high exposure to 3D NAND flash memory.

Demand for wafer-fabrication equipment is notoriously volatile. However, over the last 90 days, the consensus profit estimate for this year jumped 17%, with 95% of analysts raising their targets.

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

The same case is made for Action Alerts PLUS holding Alphabet (GOOGL) and for Lam Research (LRCX) and Broadcom (AVGO) and Growth Seeker holding Amazon (AMZN) –and a host of other high-growth companies.

Lam Research (LRCX) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after beating earnings forecasts and raising its fourth-quarter guidance.

    Getty Images

    Lam Researchgained 6.9% to $136.17 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.2% to 2,338.17.

Credit Suisse analysts Farhan Ahmad and John Pitzer and argues that Lam Research’s “new trough is higher than [its] old peak.” They explain:

We expect that bears will continue to argue that CY17 is a “Peak” year; however we think that investors are missing that it now costs >2x more to get incremental bit growth than three years ago. It is noteworthy that despite ~$17bn of memory WFE in 2016 both NAND and DRAM markets went from oversupply to undersupply – implying that new trough for memory investments is even higher than old peak (2010 memory peak had WFE of $12.6bn). We view Semi Growth, rising capital intensity, and growing China CapEx as secular multiyear themes, which could continue to provide growth in coming years. In addition, in case of tax reform there could be potential to return >$50 per share to shareholders by 2020…Increase TP to $160 (from $143), based on 12x of CY18 EPS plus net cash adj for taxes.

Lam Research’s market capitalization rose to $22.2 billion today from $20.8 billion yesterday.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch Right Now: Northrop Grumman Corporation(NOC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Five teams are expected to compete for the contract: Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) has joined with Saab to offer a clean-sheet design; Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) has teamed up with BAE Systems and L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. (NYSE: LLL) on another clean-sheet design; Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) are going with a modified KAI T-50; Raytheon Corp. (NYSE: RTN) has joined with Italy’s Leonardo and Canada’s CAE Inc. (NYSE: CAE) on a version of Leonardo’s M-346 trainer that it calls the T-100; and privately held Sierra Nevada has partnered with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) on another clean-sheet design.

  • [By Wayne Duggan]

Aggressive military and law enforcement spending could be good news for Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR) and Digital Ally, Inc. (NASDAQ: DGLY).

  • [By Rich Smith]

As details about the Pentagon’s plan have emerged, it’s become clear that this will be a sizable program, amounting to perhaps $1 trillion in spending over 30 years — not just to upgrade the Minuteman missiles, but also to buy new B-21 stealth bombers from Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC)and have General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) and Huntington Ingalls (NYSE:HII) design an entirely new class of ballistic missile submarines (to be known as the “Columbia class.”)

  • [By Michael A. Robinson]

    Key holdings in ITA include…

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) makes a full range of unmanned vehicles. That means it can cover air, land, and sea assignments for both military and commercial uses. The company is widely known for military drones like the Desert Hawk III, used by the U.K. military to surveil suspected terrorists. It also makes the Marlin, an oceangoing drone that can conduct underwater surveys and inspections. Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) makes unmanned aircraft for defense applications naturally. It’s also collaborating with Yamaha Corp. (NYSE ADR: YAMCY) to develop an autonomous helicopter with onboard intelligence-gathering equipment for such civilian uses as search and rescue and forest-fire monitoring. Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) is a great backend play because of its drone-support platform. The Common Ground Control System is an open-format control station that can be used to control all manner of UAVs. I expect the system to be adapted for commercial/industrial use as well.

As exciting as ITA’s drone exposure is, we also get a nice kicker with this ETF – defense spending.

  • [By Rich Smith]

On Thursday morning, before the stock market opens for business, Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) will report its financial results for fiscal Q4, and for 2016 as a whole.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Watch Right Now: Continental Resources, Inc.(CLR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

While crude prices stumbled into 2016, they found their footing by mid-year and roared back to life, ending the year up about 42%. Those rising prices lifted most oil stocks. However, a handful of large-cap oil stocks rose above the crowd by outperforming crude’s rally. Those top-tier performers wereContinental Resources (NYSE:CLR), Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Pioneer Natural Resources (NYSE:PXD), and Cimarex Energy (NYSE:XEC):

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Beta Should Lead At The Start of A Rally: Best ideas in the first leg up: Marathon Oil, Devon Energy (DVN), Anadarko Petroleum (APC), and Continental Resources (CLR). If OPEC announces a cut, whether moderate or deep, we expect that in the initial move up, moderate value beta names, like Marathon Oil, Devon Energy, Anadarko Petroleum, andContinental Resources will lead. For a $5 increase in oil prices, we estimate 2017 cash flow per share would increase 12-18% for these stocks vs. the remainder of the group at 12%. Of these four, short interest is modest for all exceptContinental Resources at 25%, among the highest in our universe. Outperformance of these names should be driven by investors adding to long positions, not short covering.
