stock split: Haier Electronics Group Co., Ltd. (HRELF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

    2. Appliance Sale – This is another operating segment that the company did not consider core to its business, so management sold the segment to Haier (OTCPK:HRELF) for over $5b. The benefit: Additional capital can be allocated to the core operational areas.

The main business units of the Hong Leong Asia are the Diesel Engines Unit – China Yuchai , the Consumer Products Unit – Henan Xinfei (now marketed as “Frestec”), and the Building Materials Unit – BMU. The other business units in the company are the Industrial Packaging Unit – Rex and the Air-conditioning Systems Unit – Airwell. As the majority of the business units namely Yuchai, Xinfei and Airwell, operate in China (more than 80% of total revenue), the continual slowdown of the economic growth in China coupled with increasing competition has adversely affected both the revenue and the profitability. Particularly for the consumer products unit, its small scale has severely impacted its competitiveness given aggressive larger players like Haier (OTCPK:HRELF), Midea, Feilong Electric, and Hefei Meiling.

stock split: Northrop Grumman Corporation(NOC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Wayne Duggan]

Aggressive military and law enforcement spending could be good news for Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR) and Digital Ally, Inc. (NASDAQ: DGLY).

On Thursday morning, before the stock market opens for business, Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) will report its financial results for fiscal Q4, and for 2016 as a whole.

  • [By Rich Smith]

Also included in the DSCA’s list of pending contracts are two directed toward the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, specifically:

A $300 million sale of C-17Globemaster III logistics support services, with Boeing acting as prime contractor; and A $33.5 million sale of Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) components, used to protect C-17s from anti-aircraft missile attack, supplied by Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC).

Add them all up, and the global shopping list for U.S. arms comes to more than $2.6 billion in total value, with most of that going to benefit prime contractors Orbital ATK and Raytheon, Boeing, Textron, and Northrop Grumman — some of the largest defense contractors on the planet, and stalwarts of the U.S. defense industry, each and every one.

As details about the Pentagon’s plan have emerged, it’s become clear that this will be a sizable program, amounting to perhaps $1 trillion in spending over 30 years — not just to upgrade the Minuteman missiles, but also to buy new B-21 stealth bombers from Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC)and have General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) and Huntington Ingalls (NYSE:HII) design an entirely new class of ballistic missile submarines (to be known as the “Columbia class.”)

    Key holdings in ITA include…

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) makes a full range of unmanned vehicles. That means it can cover air, land, and sea assignments for both military and commercial uses. The company is widely known for military drones like the Desert Hawk III, used by the U.K. military to surveil suspected terrorists. It also makes the Marlin, an oceangoing drone that can conduct underwater surveys and inspections. Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) makes unmanned aircraft for defense applications naturally. It’s also collaborating with Yamaha Corp. (NYSE ADR: YAMCY) to develop an autonomous helicopter with onboard intelligence-gathering equipment for such civilian uses as search and rescue and forest-fire monitoring. Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) is a great backend play because of its drone-support platform. The Common Ground Control System is an open-format control station that can be used to control all manner of UAVs. I expect the system to be adapted for commercial/industrial use as well.

As exciting as ITA’s drone exposure is, we also get a nice kicker with this ETF – defense spending.

Advisors’ Opinion:

That’s old-fashioned TV mated with born-again 2017 e-commerce. And then the almost-circular question of where that aging behemoth — television — may fit in. It’s the same digital/TV puzzle being worked at Comcast’s (CMCSA) NBCUniversal, with its BuzzFeed/Vox investments, and at Time Warner’s (TWX) Turner through its Mashable investment.

The phrase “over the top television” or “OTT” for short, aren’t exactly new terms. The phrase/abbreviation was coined shortly after Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) became a viable alternative to traditional cable television subscriptions a little less than a decade ago. The over-the-top battle didn’t get heated, though, until the past few months. But, now that some more gladiators are in the arena, sparks are starting to fly.

They’re still flying too, and should do so for a while if a small startup called Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) has anything to do with it it. See, while Netflix, Hulu — jointly owned by Time Warner, Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ:FOXA) — and a whole slew of other new players in this market may want to take notice of this up-and-comer. At the same time, investors may want to take a step back and look at where the real money in the OTT business is going to be made over the course of the next several years. OTTV plays a prominent role in that picture.

Contrary to popular belief, Netflix isn’t the dominant name it used to be in the Internet-delivered television industry. Yes, it was the first on the scene as such was was able to carve out the biggest piece of the market. It’s largely become a commoditized business in the meantime though.

For example, outside of Hulu and Netflix, CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) has jumped into the fray with a service called CBS All Access. The product allows subscribers -for a nominal monthly fee – access a variety of CBS programming via the Internet. HBO, from Time Warner Inc (NYSE:TWX), has found some measurable success with its subscription-based Internet television service called HBO Go.

Sling TV, from DISH Network Corp (NASDAQ:DISH), is another one of the alternatives to the alternative that’s truly made a dent in the over the top market…. by aggregating a variety of television channels into an entire package and then selling that p

For years, Netflix has been one of the biggest battleground stocks in the market, and along the way, it’s attracted plenty of naysayers.Time Warner(NYSE:TWX) CEO Jeff Bewkes famously compared the streamer to “the Albanian army” in 2010 when asked if it posed a challenge to HBO. Wall Street analysts have regularly bashed the stock. Some have since admitted they were wrong, while others continue to throw shade at the company even after its blockbuster earnings report last night. Let’s take a look at a few of the biggest myths that have circulated about Netflix in recent years and how the company just disproved them.

Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) was downgraded to Hold from Buy at Brean Capital. The 52-week range is $55.53 to $96.57. The consensus price target is $102.34. With the shares closing at $96.46, this could also be a valuation call.

Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) has signed Avengers series director Joss Whedon to make a Batgirl movie that’s part of its DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie franchise. In addition to television series including Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, Whedon is known for writing and directing Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) first two Avengers films, so the director’s move to the DCEU franchise presents a notable creative shakeup in the cinematic superhero competition.

stock split: Nuveen Select Tax Free Income Portfolio(NXP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Eric Volkman]

Income investors might be wary of Qualcomm, as the company loves to spend its money — at times, its dividend payouts and share buybacks have exceeded free cash flow. Compounding that matter, the company should soon close the door on its acquisition of European peer NXP Semiconductor (NYSE:NXP), a deal with an estimated enterprise value of $47 billion.

stock split: Helen of Troy Limited(HELE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Helen of Troy (HELE) is trading lower Friday, after reporting a mixed first quarter.

The personal care products company said it earned $1.27 a share on revenue that rose 0.8% to $347.9 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.17 per share on revenue of $356.1 million. Gross profit margin increased 2.3 percentage points to 43.8%, while cash flow from operations climbed from $37.8 million in the year ago period to $41.7 million.

For the full year, Helen of Troy expects to earn between $5.85 to $6.35 a share on revenue of $1.57 billion to $1.62 billion. Analysts are modeling for earnings of $6.12 a share on revenue of $1.6 billion. However the company also warned that it expects a decline in sales for its nutritional supplement division.

Jefferies Trevor Young reiterated a Buy rating and $114 price target on the stock today:

Despite the 1Q revenue miss and ~30bps (~$4m) expected incremental FX headwinds, management maintained its FY revenue and adjusted EPS guidance (GAAP EPS came down $0.23 on the high and low end due to $6.6m of after tax non-cash asset impairment and patent litigation charges). Embedded in this guidance is the assumption of beauty coming in at the low end of the previous -7% to -12% range, and nutritional declining MSD (vs. flat to LSD positive growth previously). We believe this implies that housewares (MSD positive growth guidance previously) and health & home (LSD positive growth previously) would have to perform incrementally better than prior expectations, which we view as a positive.

The shares are down 3.3% to $99.31 in recent trading.
