Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now

Legendary investor Warren Buffett advises to be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. One way we can try to measure the level of fear in a given stock is through a technical analysis indicator called the Relative Strength Index, or RSI, which measures momentum on a scale of zero to 100. A stock is considered to be oversold if the RSI reading falls below 30.

In trading on Tuesday, shares of Revlon Inc (NYSE: REV) entered into oversold territory, hitting an RSI reading of 29.4, after changing hands as low as $28.40 per share. By comparison, the current RSI reading of the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is 67.7. A bullish investor could look at REV’s 29.4 RSI reading today as a sign that the recent heavy selling is in the process of exhausting itself, and begin to look for entry point opportunities on the buy side. The chart below shows the one year performance of REV shares:

Enter CVR Partners LP (NYSE: UAN), the only company in the US to produce fertilizer from petroleum coke (petcoke). Petcoke is a byproduct of petroleum refining, and prices are usually set off coal prices, since these two products compete in the same niche. Thus the same dynamics that currently threaten the distributions of Rentech Nitrogen Partners and Terra Nitrogen Company play in CVR Partners’ favor.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: Lumber Liquidators Holdings, Inc(LL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Daniel Miller]

If you remember about a year ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention let the world know that consumers who had purchased the China-produced flooring from Lumber Liquidators Holdings (NYSE:LL) were roughly three times more likely to fall ill with cancer. That rate was much higher than earlier calculations following the 2015 broadcast by CBS’ 60 Minutes. The stock shed much of its value since the 2015 airing, but rebounded 17% on Tuesday after it reported a narrower-than-expected loss during the fourth quarter, offering investors a slight amount of hope going forward.

The Q4 2016 earnings report for small cap hardwood flooring stockLumber Liquidators Holdings Inc (NYSE: LL) is scheduled for before the market opens onTuesday (February 21th). Lumber Liquidators Holdingshad been ahighflying stock until the middle of 2013 when shares were hit be allegations that the companys flooring products contained illegal levels of formaldehyde. Shares then took another hit on reports that the Department of Homeland Security andthe USFish and Wildlife Servicehad executed a sealed court-issuedsearch/raid on theheadquarters for possible sourcing violations.Lumber Liquidators Holdingslater won a favorable ruling in a California lawsuit filed under the state’s Proposition 65 covering cancer-causing chemicals and agreed to pay $2.5 million (without admitting wrongdoing) to settle a civil matter with the California Air Resources Board.

Shares ofLumber Liquidators Holdings, Inc.(NYSE:LL) were moving higher last month, though there was little company-specific news out on the stock. According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, the stock rose 18.4% in March.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: The Kraft Heinz Company(KHC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sarfaraz Khan]

There are dozens of major companies that could be on Warren Buffetts radar, ranging from food company General Mills (NYSE:GIS)valued at $36 billion to discount retailer Dollar General (NYSE:DG)valued at $20.5 billion. Rumors are also abound that the Oracle of Omaha backed Kraft Heinz (NSDQ:KHC), which is Berkshire Hathaways largest stock position, could make a bid for snack giant Mondelez International (NSDQ:MDLZ)valued at almost $65 billion, although these might just be rumors since Buffett himself ruled out the possibility of a Mondelez deal in mid-2015.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Susquehanna’s Pablo Zuanic and team note that Keurig’s business in K-cups has been slowing ever since it was bought by JAB, a problem that could be solved in a very convoluted way by a Mondelez International (MDLZ)-Kraft Heinz (KHC) merger. They explain:

  • [By Bradley Seth McNew]

Wednesday was yet another record-setting day for the stock market, as the Dow climbed triple digits and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite followed the venerable average to unprecedented heights. Economic data showing rising inflation made it more likely that the Federal Reserve will look to boost interest rates at its next Federal Open Market Committee meeting next month, and the ripples throughout the bond market sent many investors to consider stocks instead. Yet despite the substantial rally, some stocks missed out on the move higher, and American International Group (NYSE:AIG), Teck Resources (NYSE:TECK), and Movado Group (NYSE:MOV) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

BMO’s Charles Sebaski explains why he upgraded American International Group (AIG) to Outperform from market Perform:

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

AIG has been trading at discount to its tangible book given its mid-single digit return profile; however, we expect AIGs valuation to keep increasing with its improving return profile. We are now forecasting AIG to generate a 9.9% operating return on tangible common equity (ROtE) in 2018, which would be a 450 bp improvement from 2016. A double-digit return profile warrants the 1x multiple that we are applying to its tangible book value per share. While we expect AIGs return profile to benefit from lower taxes, we also expect the companys life and retirement business to improve from the rising interest rates as those spread businesses are more interest rate sensitive than the P&C business. That said, we expect continued improvement on both the loss and expense sides of the P&C as contributing factors to the ROtE improve.

BMO also upgraded Arch Capital Group (ACGL), Brown & Brown (BRO), and Travelers (TRV).

Shares of American International Group have declined 0.4% to $65.60 at 3:36 p.m. today, whileArch Capital Group has gained 2% to $87.90,Brown & Brown has advanced 0.5% to $44.65, andTravelers has risen 1.3% to $120.79.

American International Group (AIG) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after its earnings fell well short of the Street consensus.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    AIG dropped 8.9% to $60.85 today, while the S&P 500 gained 0.5% to 2,349.25.

Yes, AIG’s earnings were bad. It reported an operating loss of $2.72 a share, missing forecasts for a profit of 42 cents, according to Bloomberg. And it didn’t help that John Paulson’s Paulson & Co. cut its stake in the insurer.

You’ll notice the forecast is different than what it was in my earlier post on AIG–and an AIG spokesperson even reached out to tell me that the consensus, at least according to FactSet, should had been for a loss of 61 cents a share. Why the confusion? RBC’s Mark Dwelle and Scott Heleniak have your answer:

In reporting results AIG has recast all of its business segments, transferring various pieces to a Legacy unit, reallocating corporate expenses and net investment income as well as making some changes as to what is included within operating income, the most notable of which is that loss reserve discount effects in U.S. Commercial Insurance (and the Legacy unit) are now excluded from Operating Income. Accordingly, comparisons to prior reported results, and to some extent our 4Q16 estimates, require some reconciliation.

Macquarie’sAmit Kumar considers the bull and bear cases on AIG:

On 2/14, after market close, AIG reported a Q4 operating loss of $2.72 per share vs. our estimate of a $0.52 loss and street consensus of a $0.54 loss. Results are not directly comparable to street consensus due to lack of unanimity in terms of reserve adjustment estimates. Results included a higher than estimated $5.6 billion or $3.56/share of adverse development. The company had previously announced the possibility of a material reserve charge in the quarter. The bulls on the stock would note that this quar

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own Right Now: Just Hold Your Nose and Dive Into Under Armour Inc (UAA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

    Under Armour’s class-C shares dropped 3.2% to $18.43, while the S&P 500. Under Armour’s (UAA) class-A shares fell 2% to $19.86.

Under Armour fired about 24 employees in its Connected Fitness unit, with most of them located in Copenhagen. That seems like a big drop for such a small act, but these days it seems like everyone except Barron’s is looking for a reasons to dump Under Armour’s shares.

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

As the worlds of tech and athletics merge, Under Armour (UAA) is determined to lead the charge.

    Getty Images

Cowens John Kernan reiterated a Market Perform rating on the stock Monday, given its valuation, but writes that the firms commitment to technology and innovation continues. He writes that the North American athletic category is very competitive, and he thinks Under Armour was more promotional through the holiday season than Nike (NKE). Nonetheless, the companys ongoing tech focus was evident at the Consumer Electronics Show last week.

    From his note:

We attended CES 2017 in Las Vegas last week and met with UA’s Director of Investor Relations Carrie Gillard and Chief Digital Officer Mike Lee. We saw UA’s three new UA Record equipped running shoes, the Speedform Gemini 3 ($159.99), Speedform Velociti RE ($139.99) and Speedform Europa RE ($159.99). The shoes all include automatic tracking technology with UA’s MapMyRun program and also feature technology that allows for a short jumping test to measure muscle fatigue and recommend an appropriate intensity level for the athlete’s run or workout. All three shoes are available for pre-order now and will be sold on February 1st. UA also released Athlete Recovery Sleepwear ($80-$100), inspired by and developed with Tom Brady, which are designed with materials to help the body recover faster post-workout. The sleepwear is available for sale on UA’s website now. We note that CEO Kevin Plank was a keynote speaker at the conference.

He writes that the companys latest update will also include a sleep analysis program, and that other fitness-related booths at CES, including Fitbit (FIT) did not feature new hardware.

Under Armour is up 0.2% to $30.52 in recent trading.

Yesterday, shares of Under Armour (UAA) surged 9.9% as investors cheered its better-than-expected earnings. Baird’s Jonathan Komp and Benjamin Bray, however, note that the Bull-Bear debate around Under Armour is far from over. And remember, this is coming from a pair of bulls.

Jeff Schear/Getty Images for Under Armour

So why do Komp and Bray warn investors not to make too much of yesterday’s big gain? I’ll let them explain:

We are encouraged that UA delivered on Q1 targets (profit upside timing-driven), but view todays ~9% gain as a sign sentiment had moved too negative, and not that current bear arguments are resolved. We think the lowered Q2 bar probably de-risks the near-term outlook, setting up the planned 2H acceleration as a key proof point on whether UA can successfully shift its product/positioning. We are staying the course, and will seek opportunities (hopefully during 2H) to raise our conviction level.

That aligns nicely with the view of Cowen’s John Kernan, who argued that short-covering was responsible for a big chunk of yesterday’s move.

Shares of Under Armour have declined 0.3% to $21.61 at 1:57 p.m. today.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Shares of Under Armour (UAA) have tumbled nearly 60% during the past 12 months as the once high-flying company slashed its expected growth rate. Under Armour is scheduled to report earnings tomorrow, however, and some investors are betting that the release will help turn things around for the company’s stock.

Jeff Schear/Getty Images for Under Armour

Don’t get your hopes up, write Canaccord Genuity analysts Camilo Lyon and Pallav Saini, who contend this won’t be the quarter Under Armour turns things around. They explain why:

The trifecta of headwinds that plagued UA last year (overexposure to sporting goods, overexposure to NA, and overexposure to performance apparel) has not abated, in our opinion. While UA is working to diversify its channel mix as evidenced by its recent entry into Kohl’s (KSS) (and forthcoming entry into DSW (DSW) and Famous Footwear later this year), our checks suggest the apparel segmentation efforts have fallen short of expectations. In addition, we are concerned about the lackluster trends in footwear (and Curry) as it is a key element to the growth story. Specifically, we believe the combination of a lack of newness/differentiation in the Curry 3 coupled with too many releases too soon at a higher price point ($140) resulted in tepid Q1 sales. The latest Curry 3Zero release at $120 appears to be doing modestly better. We highly regard the brand and its long-term growth prospects; however, the product and geographic diversification occurring now will take time to yield results. As such, we remain cautious on UA heading into its 1Q17 report on Thursday, April 27 BMO.

Shares of Under Armour have gained 1.3% to $19.78 at 3:06 p.m. today, while Kohl’s has climbed 1.4% to $39.92, and DSW has risen 1.3% to $21.14.
