This is part of a series of stories that comprise TheStreet’s Blue Chip Studio, which will illuminate issues related to corporate board performance, activism, dealmakers and personalities revealed by analysis of data generated by BoardEx, a business unit of TheStreet.

BlackRock (BLK), the world’s largest asset manager, said it will be putting pressure on companies to address boardroom diversity as part of a series of initiatives for 2017-2018 that the company’s 30-member Investment Stewardship team will discuss with portfolio companies.

The New York-based firm, with $5.1 trillion under management, said board composition, effectiveness, and accountability remain a top priority, and that it plans to engage companies in a constructive manner.

“More specifically, over the coming year, we will engage companies to better understand their progress on improving gender balance in the boardroom,” the firm said on its website on Monday. “Diverse boards, including but not limited to diversity of expertise, experience, age, race and gender, make better decisions.”

The shares climbed 48 cents, or 2.7%, to $18.02, compared to the S&P 500, which lost 8.85 points, or 0.38%, to 2344.93.

HP was helped by data from IDC that showed the firm regained the crown of top PC vendor from rival Levono Group in Q1.

In addition, Morgan Stanleys Katy Huberty reiterated an Overweight rating on HP and increased her price target to $22 from $19:

In the past 18 months, HP removed over $1B of excess costs and refocused investment dollars on driving innovation across printing and personal systems. Recent product refreshes, including JetIntelligence laser printers, Sprocket mobile photo printer, and premium and gaming/VR-focused PCs are now driving share gains and a return to top-line growth (total revenue grew 2% and 4% Y/Y in last two fiscal quarters, respectively). By reinventing HP, we believe management is heralding a new era for the company whereby investors can expect greater confidence in top-line stabilization as well as earnings and FCF durability.

Passive ETFs continuing to top active rivals is not all about the performance of U.S. stocks this year. Yes, the S&P 500 is up 5.5 percent year-to-date, but that is not a jaw-dropping performance. Much of the ongoing out-performance of passive ETFs over active counterparts this year is attributable to fees. Just look at the rock-bottom fees on ETFs such as the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY) and the iShares S&P 500 Core ETF (NYSE: IVV).
