The S&P 500 rose 1.4% to 2,076.06, its biggest gain since March 11, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced213.12 points, or 1.2% to 17,706.05. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 2% to 4,861.06, its highest close since April 27.
