U.S. Treasury bonds have had a dream rally so far this year with long-dated bonds like PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Treasury Index Exchange-Traded Fund (NYSEARCA:ZROZ) adding 21.1% (as of September 12, 2016), Vanguard Extended Duration Treasury ETF (NYSEARCA:EDV) advancing over 18.9% and iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NYSEARCA:TLT) inching up about 12.5%.
Higher yields, weaker gold and utility stocks have hurt “flight to safety” investments.
The rise in the 30-year bond yield held its 200-week simple moving average at 3.05% over the past two weeks. And the gold bullion exchange-traded fund held its 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level of $112.04 on Friday.
