Hot Financial Stocks To Buy For 2018

Sometime in my mid-twenties, I decided I wanted to stay in the Maryland area and buy a home.

I could afford a mortgage around $1,500 per month based on my expensesmostly student loan paymentsand salary. If I found the perfect home, I could stretch to afford around$1,750 per month.

As I searched for my future home, I played a financial game with myself. Id soon be saddled with a $1,500 mortgage, so why not spend like I had one already? Why not pay a pretend mortgage before my real one so I had a better idea of what it would feel like?

When I was looking for a home, I was sharing a two-bedroom apartment with a friend and paying $600 a month, plus utilities. It wasa steep jump to go from $600 to $1,500 a month, so playing this game was important.

At the time, I wasbudgeting using an app, so I knew I could handle the increase.

Hot Financial Stocks To Buy For 2018: Old National Bancorp Capital Trust I(ONB)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By kiplinger]

Old National Bancorp (ONB) is a 181-year-old financial institution with 195 branches, mainly in the Midwest. The stock, which is still down by about one-third from its prerecession high, trades at just 13 times projected 2016 earnings and yields an attractive 3.4%. If interest rates ever rise, the bank should benefit from a widening spread between its cost of funds and the interest rates borrowers pay.

It’s a favorite of David Dreman, author of the classic 1980 book Contrarian Investment Strategy. His philosophy: “We believe that the markets are not perfectly efficient.” Some stocks, in other words, are judged by the market to be cheaper than their actual worth.

Hot Financial Stocks To Buy For 2018: QCR Holdings Inc.(QCRH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Keith Fitz-Gerald]

My favorite at the moment is QCR Holdings Inc. (NasdaqGM:QCRH).

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Moline, IL, the bank has a strong regional lending base in Illinois and Iowa that should grow in line with the broader national economy. I particularly like the fact that the bank considers itself relationship-driven at a time when trust is in short supply.
